This month, we are reflecting on the passage of time as we transition from 2019 to 2020 and also looking forward and welcoming a new decade. As I write this, I am sitting on my empty apartment floor, waiting for my mom to come over to help me load the final last boxes of cleaning products and whatnot into my car. I moved out of my apartment that I have lived in for 12 years (!) and in with my partner. Reflecting thoughtfully on all the memories and changes that have occurred in my life, in this place. Also excitedly daydreaming about what this new year will bring: a vibrant new energy of family life, merging with my partner and his two kids as well as welcoming our new baby girl in March.
I’m trying to stay present through these transitions and surrender to the flow of energy that is moving me forward into new ways of being in the world and the new role as a yogi mama. A flow that has also changed my physical practice tremendously over the last 7 months (aka can’t move like I used to). However, all of the practices of Yoga are still ever present (just as they always are) even off my mat. I’m practicing being gentle with myself and baby, surrendering to what is, and staying connected to spiritual activities that remind me of my connection with the Divine. Trying to trust the process!! Isn’t that hard, sometimes, yogis?
Pema Chodron says, “There isn’t anything except your own life that can be used as ground for your spiritual practice. Spiritual practice is your life, twenty-four hours a day.” Yoga is everywhere, and it’s happening right now. Every moment is an opportunity to awaken our awareness of Self and connect deeper. What event, person, or change in your life is encouraging you to reflect and grow?
Your ever well-wisher,
Ashley (and baby)
