Greenview Students "Lead with Literacy"
Last week, 83 members of the Greenview National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) and Student Council, along with family volunteers and staff, spent a meaningful day giving back to the community. With training and support from the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, students traveled to Sunview, Adrian, and Rowland to share the joy of reading with kindergarten and first-grade classes.
At each school, students gathered in the gym, listened to Mrs. Apryl Buchanan read a favorite story, and then partnered with book buddies to read aloud. Our Greenview students demonstrated their practiced expression, engagement, and leadership when reading aloud to our younger students.
Every child received a donated book and bookmark, generously provided by The Book Bank and our student groups, along with a family literacy handout to encourage reading at home.
The service day continued with a visit to the Fatima Family Center for a tour of its Black History Museum, followed by a stop at the Baseball Heritage Museum. Students participated in a readers theater highlighting the important role of youth during the Civil Rights Movement, enjoyed time together in the game room, and shared lunch—capping off a day filled with literacy, learning, and community connection.
