Adrian Celebrates Kindness!

The students at Adrian Elementary School kicked off their Kindland commitment with a kindness assembly last week! The Brush High School cheerleaders were special guests, who not only did a performance for the students, but also shared a few examples of places they see and experience kindness as cheerleaders for the football team.

Students were encouraged to be kind everyday and Principal Lasky shared some exciting ways their kindness might be rewarded. Of course, that's in addition to the good feeling that comes with being kind!

Students also received a Kindland bracelet to proudly show their commitment to being kind!

Stay in the Know

September is Attendance Awareness Month!

Attendance Awareness Month continues at South Euclid-Lyndhurst Schools and we've been celebrating our students for showing up every day!

Why does attendance matter? Because when your student misses school, we miss them! Students find the most success when they are in school, all day, ready to learn. Families play an important role in student success by making a plan and helping students arrive, on time, and stay in school all day, every day!

Did you know:

  • Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict attendance problems for the entire school year. Students who miss 2-4 days in September are more likely to miss nearly a month of school by the end of the year.
  • Reading proficiency is strongly tied to attendance - the better the attendance, the more likely they are to find success in reading!
  • Overall academic performance also fares better when students are in school! Students who miss 10% of school or more (or about 2 days of school a month) are more likely to struggle academically.

The bottom line? When students are in school and focused, they are more likely to find success!

Save the Date - Coffee Talks with Dr. Kaple

Please save the date for two drop-in events happening in October! The district will host two Coffee Talks with Dr. Kaple, which will be opportunities for members of the community to pop by, say hello, ask questions, or share concerns with the superintendent. Both events will be held in the cafeteria at Brush High School from 8-10 a.m.

  • Thursday, October 9
  • Friday, October 24

Annual Student Support Curriculum Notice

Ohio state law (HB123 and SB288) mandates that school districts provide student curricula that supports student safety and well-being. Now in its third year of implementation, the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Schools includes a variety of age-appropriate materials to meet these requirements. Families are encouraged to review the information found in this notice and contact the district with any questions.

Also included in this notice is an opt-out form for families who prefer not to participate, which must be completed by October 1, 2025.

Reminder - Required Annual Notice

In accordance with Ohio law and as reflected in South Euclid-Lyndhurst Board of Education Policy 5780.01, Parents Bill of Rights, and the Board-approved Student and Parent Handbook, families may access the required annual notice and google form acknowledging receipt of the notice and consent. You will need to complete a form for each student enrolled in our district. Please note if you have already completed the google form, you do not need to submit again. Please contact bussey@sel.schools.org with questions.

Don't Miss Out - Take the Communications Survey by Sept. 17!

Your feedback is valuable to us! Please complete this survey to share with us your thoughts and preferences on district and school communication so we may continue to improve our practices to best serve you! The survey should take 10 minutes or less to complete and will remain open until September 17. Students, families, staff, and community members are invited to participate, so feel free to share the link!

From the PTA

PTA to Host Candidates Forum

Since at least 1958, the SEL PTA Council and the League of Women Voters have partnered to provide nonpartisan voting information to our school community. PTA Council is proud to continue this tradition by hosting a candidates’ forum for the two contested races in the South Euclid and Lyndhurst communities.

All are welcome to attend, ask questions, and learn more about the candidates who will appear on the ballot in the November 4 general election.

The mission of the PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. Becoming informed voters and electing leaders who will help create a caring community for our children, is one important way we fulfill that mission.
