Bank of America Racing Challenge Championships

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Saturday, October 21, 2023) Lone Star Park was the host track of the 30th edition of the Bank of America Challenge Championships held on Saturday, October 21.


Out of the twelve races on the card, ten of the races were stakes highlighted by five graded championship races. Horses earned a berth into the championship races by qualifying in regional challenge races in their respective divisions.

Challenge Championship (G1)


A Tres of Eagle (One Famous Eagle - A Tres of Paint by Tres Seis) captured the Grade 1, Championship with a determined effort in the 440-yard race. The four-year-old bay gelding stopped the clock in :21.665, a half-length in front of Apollitical Redflash.


Francisco Calderon was aboard for the win for the gelding conditioned by Eddie Lee Willis and owned by Bella Vista Farms LLC.


A Tres of Eagle left the gates at odds of 3.80 to 1, returning $9.60 on a winning $2 win wager.

Fox news (Fdd Dynasty - Summer Love Song by Mr Jess Perry) was the post-time favorite in the Adequan Derby Challenge Championship and ran like it, finishing three-quarters ahead of the closest challenger. The bay filly is trained by Jason Olmstead and owned by Tom Maher. Edwin Escobedo was in the saddle for the graded win.


Fox News led the entire way, covering the 400-yards in :19.947. The three-year-old returned $8.40 on a $2 win wager.

Winner, $154,750 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3)

$130,625 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2)


Fire Cowboy (Flying Cowboy 123 -Perky by Walk Thru Fire) earned his first stakes win in the Grade 2, John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship. Ridden by Jose Herbert for trainer Juan Diaz Jr., Fire Cowboy covered the 350 yards in :17.535. The two-year-old sorrel gelding is owned by Emmanuel Villarreal.


Fire Cowboy had to had to make up ground, but got up late for the victory. Bettors holding a winning $2 mutuel ticket were rewarded with a payoff of $17.40 for the three-quarters of a length win.

Winner, $130,625 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2)

$106,500 Q-Racing Distaff Challenge Championship (G1)


Vytality (Mr Jess Perry - Zenergy by First Down Dash) qualified for the $106,500 Q-Racing Distaff Challenge Championship by winning a qualifying race at Lone Star Park on September 29. The four-year-old mare trained by James J. Gonzalez III made steady progress during the 400-yard race, getting up by a neck at the wire, stopping the clock at :19.841.


Francisco Calderon was in the irons for the Texas-bred sorrel filly owned by Victor Diaz.

$104,500 Cox Ranch Distance Challenge Championship (G1)


The Grand Legend (Fdd Going Grand - Legendary Seis by Tres Seis) entered the Cox Ranch Distance Challenge fresh off of a win in a regional challenge race held at Lone Star Park on September 29.


In this Grade 1 event, the seven-year-old gelding entered the top of the stretch in the lead and never looked back. The Grand Legend crossed the wire five lengths in front of the post time favorite, O Donovan Rossa.


The Grand Legend covered the 870 yards in :45.121 with Noe Villatoro aboard. The sorrel gelding, trained by Adan Guzman and owned by James Whitener, paid $5.40 on a winning $2 win wager.

Total handle for the 12 race card was $704,795 and the races attracted 4,205 fans for the Saturday night card.


Live racing will resume Thursday, October 26 with a first race post time at 6:05 p.m.
