Serving epilepsy patients from Fresno to Monterey to the Oregon border
A Note From EFNC Board Chair
Dr. Joseph Sullivan
Board of Directors 2016
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself as I recently transitioned from
Co Vice-Chair to the position of
Board Chair of the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California Board of Directors. I am excited to take on this role and want to
acknowledge and thank Dr. Edie Zusman for her amazing leadership over these last two years.
In 2007, I joined
the Professional Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California. Upon getting involved, I learned about Camp Coelho, EFNC's Epilepsy Youth Summer Camp. As an outdoor enthusiast, the idea of spending a week in Yosemite with kids affected by epilepsy was an opportunity that seemed too good to be true. In 2008, I volunteered as a member of the medical staff and ever since then, I have attended Camp Coelho with my wife, who is also a pediatrician, and my two daughters. Youth programs are one of the main reasons why I continue to be so active with EFNC. I see the impact we as a community can have on children with epilepsy/seizures and their families.
As I transition to
Board Chair, I have a few immediate goals I hope to accompli
sh alongside our staff, board members, and you, our epilepsy community. These goals include improving the visibility of EFNC so that patients, families and providers know about our existence and services available; having more direct contact with communities within the Northern California region to include community-based talks, support groups, and support for children in their schools; and increasing attendance and outreach for our youth programs, including the Camp Coelho and Bounce Out the Stigma Basketball Camp.
I look forward to leading our organization together with our amazing and diverse Board of Directors and Professional Advisory Board as well as our new Executive Director, Jody Iorns, as we strive to serve more patients and their families who are living with epilepsy in Northern California.
We have a lot of exciting ideas and plans underway and I hope you will join me in this journey by staying connected and engaged. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you would like to know more or ideally get more involved in our mission.
