A Note from Fr. Vince

I want you to know that Bishop Joensen is sending all of you an email on Friday. It is his decision on pastoral roles for parish leadership. That means that my time with you will soon come to an end. My ‘2-month’ stint will be 6 months next week. It’s been quite an experience during these Covid months. I will be celebrating all masses on the weekend of the 12-13th. From there, I’m back to retirement. I came to help here on the very first day of the Pandemic closures. There is no connection between the 2. Immediately we began to tape masses from the chapel. Thankfully, we transitioned to live or live-streamed masses 5 weeks ago. I realize that attending the Eucharist may not be possible for most of you. Safety is your first concern. I do hope that you continue to watch the live-streaming Sunday at 10 a.m. I know that it is not the same as being physically present, but the best way possible now. It’s easy to drift away from mass and church activities. This may go on for months yet. That’s not good news for any of us. If we must survive until next spring suffering from this, it may exact a great spiritual price. I hope not.
If you wonder where the summer went, do know it ends on September 22 at 2 a.m. That’s the first day of fall. Remember when it dragged through May, and then it took off like a bullet til now. Maybe it’s just me! For many of you, the fall is your favorite season. I like the hotter the better. Now that kids are back to school, I can go to Hy-Vee 2 blocks from me and get a part-time job. I own all the necessary masks. I do have references if another job offer materializes!
