Celebrating a Fabulous Four!
Yesterday was Fr. Tom Johns' birthday, Heddy Rieder’s name day, the Feast of Saint Hedwig, and the Feast of Margaret Mary Alacoque! What a day for Lake County! What a day for the whole world! I would love to talk about all four because they are awesome, but instead I would like to share a little bit about Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque.
Saint Margaret Mary was chosen by our Lord to announce to others of His Sacred Heart. Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque was born in a small town in France in the 17th Century. Her childhood was marked by many difficulties. When she was in her twenties, Saint Margaret Mary entered the Order of the Visitation Nuns. During prayer she saw the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus filled with mercy for every human soul. Slowly but surely a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus began to spread. Another individual who helped spread this devotion was Saint John Eudes. After Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque went home to the Lord in 1690, the observance of the Sacred Heart of Jesus became a feast of the whole Church.
Fr. James Kubicki SJ wrote a fantastic book on the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I highly recommend “A Heart On Fire: Rediscovering A Devotion To The Sacred Heart of Jesus.” Also, here at Saint Mary Magdalene we have the Sacred Heart Novena on First Fridays after the 9am Mass. This novena runs from June to February.
Remember, today the Sacrament of Reconciliation is in its new location, Stairwell “C.” Please enter through the Parish Office Doors. Confessions are from 2:30pm to 3:15pm. God bless and stay safe!

Pastor, St. Mary Magdalene
