A Novel Idea 2022:
If it’s April, that means A Novel Idea makes its return to Central Oregon! The idea behind A Novel Idea is simple: pick a great book, engage with community through thought-provoking and relevant programming, and wrap up the project with free and accessible visits from the authors. This year we again have two books, one for adults and one for young readers. Diane Wilson’s The Seed Keeper (adults) and Christine Day’s I Can Make This Promise (youth) both invite readers into the generational triumphs and challenges of unforgettable characters. Both books are available for check-out from your library, and both are also available for instant download—no waiting—via Hoopla Digital as eBooks and as audiobooks. Visit our website to learn more about the books, the authors, and all of the great programming that supports this year’s A Novel Idea (you'll also find a PDF of the Readers Guide).

Join Us as We Celebrate el Día de los Niños
El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Day of the Child/Day of the Book) celebrates children of all cultures and connects them to the world of learning through books, stories, and the library. Join us for this year’s celebration—the whole family is welcome! Newbery and Pura Belpré Award-winning author Donna Barba Higuera joins us in-person on April 30 for several fun-filled events, including a read-along, a writing workshop just for teens, and a fun-filled El día de los niños celebration for the whole family . Check out page 3 of our Events guide for a full list of events.

The Library Events Guide Returns
The printed library Events guide went on hiatus during the pandemic, and we’re excited to bring it back. Inside the April/May issue you’ll find a robust offering of in-person, online, and hybrid (online and in-person) events and programs. You can explore it online here and can pick up a physical copy at all library locations. We are so happy to welcome you back to story times, classes, lectures, and more, but please note that space may be limited at in-person events. Because things can change rapidly, be sure to check the online web calendar for the latest information before attending an in-person event ( https://dpl.pub/events).

Calling All Artists: Design an Events Guide Cover
Calling all doodlers, painters, digital artists, and photographers! We’re looking for original artwork for the bi-monthly Events guide. Show your creative side for the chance to win great library swag and have your design featured on the cover of an upcoming issue. This is open to all ages and all mediums, as long as the art can be submitted as a high-resolution image if selected. Everyone who submits receives a library tote bag, and individuals whose art is selected get even more library swag. Learn more, including specific guidelines, on our website here.
