A Novel Idea Begins

Programming for A Novel Idea is in full swing this month, inviting readers to dive into the themes and stories of Murder by Degrees and The Queen of Ocean Parkway. Events throughout the month explore the ideas within these books, leading up to the final author event on Saturday, May 3. The youth edition author will also visit on Saturday, April 26. All programs are free thanks to the support of the Deschutes Public Library Foundation.

Author! Author! Ellen Waterston on April 3

The 2025 Author! Author! season continues on Thursday, April 3, with Ellen Waterston—Oregon Poet Laureate and acclaimed writer. This year's series is focused on Oregon authors, including Waterston in April and Willy Vlautin in May.

Author! Author! began in 2012 as a way to expand the literary landscape in Central Oregon while raising funds for the Deschutes Public Library Foundation. For event tickets, visit dplfoundation.org. All proceeds from Author! Author! ticket sales benefit the library’s youth, teen, and senior programs and services.

Get Ready for Gardening Season

Spring is here, and it’s the perfect time to start planning your garden. Join us for a Seed Swap on April 12 at the Redmond Library in partnership with the Central Oregon Gardeners group. Bring your extra seeds—vegetables, fruits, flowers, or herbs—and exchange them with fellow gardeners. We’ll provide envelopes, labels, and supplies to help you trade and share.

Looking for more gardening inspiration? Explore our collection of books on gardening, landscaping, and plant care, available online and in our branches. Plus, mark your calendar for our upcoming Garden Fair in May for even more ways to grow your green thumb.

Drive-Thru Service at Redmond Library

The Redmond Library’s drive-thru service makes returning materials and picking up holds quick and easy. The returns chute is open 24/7 for books, DVDs, and magazines. Holds can be picked up at the drive-thru window Monday–Saturday from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00–5:00 p.m. Be sure to select "Redmond DRIVE-THRU" as your pick-up location when reserving materials online. When your hold is ready, simply drive up, ring the bell, and have your library card handy.

Celebrate National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month, a time to immerse yourself in the beauty of words—whether by reading, writing, or sharing poetry. Throughout the month, we’re hosting events that highlight poetry’s power to inspire and intrigue. Explore the connection between poetry and mystery in Murder by Degrees by Ritu Mukerji. Browse our poetry reading list to discover new and classic works to enjoy all month long or submit your own poetry to the Source Weekly's poetry month contest.

Beyond the Books: Digital Magazines

Your library card unlocks more than just books—it gives you instant access to a world of digital magazines through OverDrive. Whether you're catching up on The New Yorker or gathering style inspiration from Architectural Digest, there’s something for every interest.

Explore new reads like Cook’s Illustrated for kitchen inspiration, The NBA Book for sports insights, or Inside Your Dog’s Mind for a deep dive into your furry friend’s thoughts. No wait times, no due dates—just instant access to the latest issues and past editions.
