A Novel Idea: Be the First to Know

We are just days away from unveiling the 2025 A Novel Idea selections—one for adults, and one for young readers. Join us at the Downtown Bend Library on Saturday, December 7, at 6:00 p.m. when we announce the books. We’ll have trivia with prizes, snacks, and beverages available for purchase. Everyone is welcome! Books will be on hand for check-out as well as for sale. A Novel Idea started in 2004 as a community reading project inspired by the question, What if everyone read the same book?” Now entering its 22nd year, A Novel Idea has grown into the largest community read project in the state of Oregon. You can learn more about A Novel Idea and have a look at past selections on our website.

All Aboard! The Train Man Returns in December

This annual display is highly anticipated by families and people of all ages in Central Oregon and requires countless hours of preparation by Michael and his volunteers; we greatly appreciate their dedication to this beloved community tradition.

New Redmond Library Update

The temporary Redmond Library (located at 2127 S Hwy 97) will remain open through Saturday, December 21. Redmond customers: You can hold your library items during the time period between the closure of the temporary library and the opening of the new library; no late fees will accrue. Sign up for “Redmond Library Updates” at dpl.pub/newsletters to be the first to know the official opening date!

Volunteer Opportunities at the Redmond Library

Were looking for enthusiastic volunteers to be part of the Redmond Library’s new future. Makerspace Support volunteers will greet and assist Makerspace users, and Building Docents will help welcome the community into the new space, providing tours to help enrich the library experience.
