Note from Ms. Daws
Halloween was a wonderful success of decorated doors, a haunted house and a dance…What a fun day
for everyone. Thank you Ms. Pedro for providing a great day for everyone and our Marina faculty and
staff for helping out. Also, make sure to check out the Message in a Bottle Art Show this weekend with our very own student art work in the Palace of Fine Arts: Friday through

Don't Forget!
Saturday at the Chinatown YMCA is THIS SATURDAY
Join us for a day of fun at the Chinatown YMCA, tomorrow November 2nd from 1-4pm.
We know that it can sometimes be difficult for students to have the opportunity or motivation to get outside on weekends, so this program is perfect for those students and parents who. Parents are welcome to join in the fun, but not required to stay.
Family Summits 2019
Over the next month, the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and Families is hosting  Family Summits in each district ,  and the information gathered from families at these summits will help inform their five year planning process. Your voice matters! Don't miss this awesome opportunity.
Be sure to mention that your student attends Marina Middle School.

Marina staff will be attending the meeting for District 2 on November 14th at Sherman Elementary from 6-8pm. We would love for you to join us.

Student/Family Festivals
We had a great time with you all at the Family Fun Fest, Lights On Afterschool Event, Back to School Night, and parent meetings!
We believe that a vital part of the Marina Middle School community is parents and families. Our family events and PTSA meetings are great ways for families to get involved and help their student's success here at Marina. We are looking forward to our Family Cookbook/Dinner as well! Sign Up HERE if you haven't already!
Penguin Spotlight
Each week, we make sure to spotlight a number of students and staff who are doing great things here at Marina. They get the chance to win prizes and have their names announced based of of their character and willingness to help out during the week. Congrats to this weeks staff spotlight winner, Mr. Vong!
Lunch Celebrations!
Each month, we celebrate a different people and cultures in hopes that students can learn about and support people different from themselves.
This past month, we celebrated Purple Spirit Day, facilitated by our very own Rainbow Penguins Club, who strives to help educate the Marina community about LGBTQ+ issues and provide social opportunities and resources for LGBTQ+ students and their allies. It's open to all students (allies as well as LGBTQ+ identified) and meets on Thursdays in room 312. Students signed a pledge to take action against bullying--doing something when they see or hear bullying and not using anti-LGBTQ+ language--and of course, students and staff wear purple to show their support! Over 200 students and staff signed the pledge this year! Thanks everyone!
Our Penguin Broadcasting Team , facilitated by Mr. Helmenstine, has been doing an incredible job at keeping students, staff, and parents connected with the what is what and who is who at Marina. They regularly make videos, cover sports events, lunch clubs, volunteer work, and even pets! Make sure you follow them, as well as our other Marina instagram accounts! @PenguinBroadcasting @PenguinArtSF @MarinaPenguinMusic @MMS.SF @MarinaBeacon
Dia De Los Muertos

Marina Penguins facilitated a shrine for their loved ones to celebrate Dia De Los Muertos this week, and invited students and staff to add mementos to the shrine.

Come by room 124 all next week to see it and add what you would like!
