Dear First Congregational Church,
On this day as all of us are taking in the news of election results, I heard someone ask, “How will we get through this?” “Together,” is the answer. So is leaning on God for comfort and strength.
Suddenly, Sunday seems a long time away. We are glad then to remind you that there is a Prayer Service already planned for tomorrow night, Thursday, November 7. In light of where we are emotionally and spiritually this day, we are extending our time together.
You are invited to attend:
A Hymn Sing in the Sanctuary at 5:30 PM
A Prayer Service of readings and extended moments of silence at 6:00 PM
A Potluck Dinner in the Standish and Heritage Rooms at 6:30 PM
If you are not able to attend the whole evening, please feel free to come for whichever part works for you. And whether or not you attend, please know that we are holding you in prayer. We will livestream on YouTube beginning at 5:30 PM.
After the prayer service, we’ll let the choir get their food first so they can go to their regular Thursday evening rehearsal. If you are bringing food to share, please bring it in a crock pot, or bring a salad or finger food, since warming space in the oven is limited.
Beloved Friends, let this day be one of attending to our feelings – a time for sadness and lament, if that is what you need. Let us also be tender with one another and gentle with ourselves. If you are watching the news, do it only to the extent that it helps you. All the analysis in the world will not change the outcome, and if you find it feeding your fears, turn it off. Nothing good comes from fear.
Love each other. Let God love you. Remember you are not alone. Trust that the Light of God’s Love still shines, even in the midst of shadows and grief. Nothing can ever put that Light out. There will be work for us to do, but today, let yourself be cradled in grace.
When you breathe in, breathe in peace. When you breathe out, breathe out love.
Holding you in the Light,
