A Message from Mario

Dear Friend,

It has only been a few short weeks since I began my new position, and I am thrilled to join Catholic Charities East Bay as its new Chief Executive Officer. After enjoying a career with the San Francisco Giants that spanned over forty years, I am honored and humbled to join this incredible organization and play a role helping those in the East Bay who are struggling. When I initially learned about this job opening, I felt a stirring inside me. I knew it was something I was supposed to do.

For nearly nine decades, Catholic Charities East Bay has served our neighbors in Alameda and Contra Costa counties, adapting our critical services to meet the most pressing needs of the day. Even in my short time here, I have seen with my own eyes the constant flow of individuals and families entering our main office in Oakland seeking help and being comforted by our staff, knowing that Catholic Charities East Bay is always here for them.

Today, we are here for families and seniors who need help paying the rent, for people applying for lawful immigration status, and for families and young people in crisis who need counseling and support.

I understand that these types of issues may feel like they are someone else’s problem, but everyone is our neighbor, and we are called to action and to make a difference when someone is hurting. It’s our responsibility to respond and to provide the love and support so desperately needed.

As I said earlier, when I initially learned about this job opening, I felt a calling. All of us hear that quiet voice from time to time. You have likely heard it at some point deep inside you as well. I encourage you to take a moment to listen to it and consider partnering once more with Catholic Charities East Bay.

Like the Good Samaritan who took the time to stop along the road, while others did not, and helped a total stranger, our neighbors are also counting on us to stop and help. This is our calling.

I am grateful that you have been answering the call to help our neighbors in need. Your support makes a difference for those we serve. Thank you!

If you did not have the chance to give over the Christmas season – or if you feel that you can do more – please take a moment and make a gift today.

With your support and generosity, we can truly change lives right here in our own local community, and our neighbors will know that we are all in this together. Thank you for your consideration.

With gratitude,

Mario Alioto

Chief Executive Officer
