We continue to be amazed by how our local business community has adapted in response to the pandemic. Here are just a few creatively pivoted events that we thought you'd enjoy!
Record Store Day
Did you know that Record Store Day - now a worldwide event celebrating the culture of the indie record store - was an idea originally conceived by Chris Brown of Portland's own Bull Moose? This year, Record Store Day has been transformed into series of "RSD Drops" on August 29, September 26, and October 24 to allow for safer, low density shopping. The fun, free goodies, and great music are still part of the plan, of course!
Roll through to donate food! On Friday, September 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., United Way of Greater Portland is hosting a contactless Drive-Thru Food Drive at Wayside Food Programs (135 Walton Street in Portland). Donations will benefit food pantries throughout Cumberland County to assist individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
Replacing its annual Trail to Ale 10K, Portland Trails this year presents the Trail to Prevail (Sep 20 to Sep 26): a virtual event celebrating the prevailing spirit of our community. Created for people of all ages and abilities, the Trail to Prevailencourages participants to design their own route on the trails and walk, run, bike, rollerblade, unicycle, roll, skip, dance - whatever you'd like! - for 10 kilometers to raise funds for Portland Trails. The Portland Trails network has been a space for physical and mental wellness for so many during this challenging year - and this event is a fantastic way to give back while having fun and staying active. Registration is open now!
