Memorial of St. Anthony of Padua, Doctor of the Church 

Today, Oh Lord, the Church celebrates the Memorial of St. Anthony of Padua. He taught by both word and example the generosity of Jesus. Both Scripture readings for today tell me of this as well.

The first passage shows us the results of jealously leading to evil, but in the Gospel, Jesus teaches on generosity. Jesus quotes, “you have heard it said an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" but I say … "offer no resistance to one who is evil.” Give me the grace today to learn that generosity which Jesus had, as well as St. Anthony - to go out of my way to be generous to others, and even go beyond my current limits.

I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
