A Peek into Classrooms: B-IV
The Lower School had their first “Week of Action” on February 6th! Each Gradehead devoted class time to teach students about social justice and take part in a creative activity. Students created art inspired by famous Black activists Mari Copeny, Alma Thomas, Bayard Rustin, and Gee’s Bend. As they painted, cut, and glued, they discussed the importance of these change-makers and shared their appreciation and gratitude for them. Their work was also showcased at the Black History Assembly!

A Peek into Classrooms: Grade VIII
Students in all Grade VIII rooms played The Game of Life board game as part of the Talks on Adolescent Development (“TOAD”) curriculum. Afterwards, they discussed how the board game defined success in its different variations across decades, what options it omitted, and how the game might look if designed according to their own ideas and experiences. This was part one of a unit for all eighth graders as they prepare for their upcoming transition to high school.
Calling all alumni: Help Shady Hill set its course for the next five years
Please join Head of School Mark Stanek and Trustee Pratt Wiley '91 for a one-hour All-Alumni Zoom conversation on April 4 at noon, EST. Mark and Pratt will share the evolving thinking on the identified strategic priorities, and invite alumni insights. We value alumni feedback and perspectives; please take part!

It's a Good Time to Consider a Gift Annuity
Charitable Gift Annuities are often referred to as the “silver lining” of higher interest rates. With a gift annuity, the donor makes an irrevocable gift of cash or stock to Shady Hill and in return, the school agrees to pay a guaranteed, fixed annual income to the donor(s) for the rest of their lifetime, in the form of quarterly checks. During times of high inflation, rates increase, making them an attractive investment. The older the donor, the higher the rate you will receive; right now it is 6 percent for a 70-year-old. To see other rates, click here; you’ll be on the website of the American Council on Gift Annuities, whose rates Shady Hill follows (as do most other nonprofits nationwide). Annuities are a wonderful way to combine retirement cashflow planning with the joy of supporting Shady Hill.
