A Place to Renew: 102 Years of Camp Weed

Dear friends in the Diocese of Florida,

What an incredible week of celebration and generosity we have shared! On Sunday, May 31, parishes across our diocese celebrated Camp Weed Sunday, lifting up Camp Weed & Cerveny Conference Center in prayer, song, and shared memories. Then, on June 3, our diocese answered the call to support this beloved ministry during our Camp Weed Day of Giving.

Whether you wore your favorite camp shirt to church, shared a story of spiritual transformation, or made a financial gift, thank you for supporting Camp Weed & Cerveny Conference Center.

As we celebrate our "Year 102: A Place to Renew," we look at a theme with a beautiful, dual meaning. Camp Weed is, first and foremost, a sacred space where we go to be spiritually renewed—a place to find solitude, peace, and a refreshed soul in the presence of God and one another. At the same time, "renewal" is physically happening all around us. Over the past year, Camp Weed has undergone major, much-needed campus renovations, and that vital work is still actively in progress.

To give you a glimpse of how your generosity is actively preserving Camp Weed & Cerveny Conference Center, here is a look at the major renewal projects currently underway or recently completed:

Campus Renewal & Renovation Projects

  • Exterior Cleaning of Mandi's Chapel: All windows, siding, and roof of Mandi's Chapel have been pressure washed and cleaned, ready for campers and guests!
  • Conference Center Roof: Replaced a previously unsafe roof with a brand-new, high-quality roof system engineered to last for over 40 years.

  • Varn Dining Hall HVAC: Fully replaced old units with new HVAC systems complete with a 10-year warranty.
  • Kitchen AC: Installed working air conditioning in the kitchen for the first time in over two years, keeping our hard-working kitchen staff cool!

  • Cabin Bathroom Renovations: The first cabin bathroom remodel is officially complete, with two more currently underway.
  • Conference Center Guest Rooms: All 36 guest rooms are currently being beautifully refurbished for our guests.
  • Juhan Dining Hall Walk-In Cooler: A brand-new walk-in cooler has been installed to ensure seamless meal service for large camp sessions and events.

  • Director’s House Refresh: A complete refresh of the camp director’s residence is underway as we search for a new Executive Director.

  • Infrastructure & Safety Upgrades: Replaced the main parking lot access ramp, replaced siding on the Conference Center bathroom/housekeeping building, and completed critical road repairs with new pavement along the damaged curve.

  • New Signage: 19 new signs have been installed throughout campus, and the Camp Weed canoe has a fresh coat of paint!
