March 2019
We invite you to enjoy this month's inspirational stories showcasing A Promise of We , and the important role you play. With your help, we can continue our mission of advancing the quality of life for people with disabilities. Together, we are better!
You help people succeed
Your support means people like Faith Hanson , who attends Opportunity Partners-Asplin Center, have the tools to express themselves through amazing art! Faith's colorful and inclusive design was one of two chosen for buttons given to hundreds of advocates at Disability Services Day at the Capitol on March 12. Faith's design is just one example of the incredible artwork created at OP locations. Each year, Asplin Center hosts an art show for persons served, families, and staff to showcase art and photography from individuals who practice their skills in classes at Asplin. Together, we are stronger
About 40 of us headed to the State Capitol this month for Disability Services Day. We joined 1,000 individuals, families, employees and advocates who rallied to ask lawmakers for more sustainable funding in our sector in order to have a strong future. More competitive wages for Direct Support Professionals are urgently needed to help with the severe workforce shortage. The House, Senate, Governor and Best Life Alliance have all put forth proposals to implement a competitive workforce factor to address the 17 percent wage disparity between disability services wages and wages of occupations competing for similar workers, and adjust the timing of scheduled rate adjustments to every two years to better keep pace with the economy. We can make a difference
Thank you to the Hopkins Noontime Lions for hosting the 15th annual spaghetti dinner at Opportunity Partners earlier this month! Their generous time as volunteers and commitment to our mission mean the world to us! Thanks to everyone who turned out for some great pasta. We love our community!
