Dear People of God in the Episcopal Church in Wisconsin:

As we committed to you in our letter of June 14, we are writing to share with you our proposal for the reunion of our dioceses. We have discerned a call for our dioceses to reunite with the conviction that, together, we can participate more fully in God’s mission in Wisconsin, fostering the vitality of our congregations, both large and small, and finding innovative ways to adapt to the changing needs of the communities we serve. Most of all, we believe that reunion will give us new ways and new energy for reaching people seeking hope and the promise of wholeness for this badly broken world.

We are eager to talk with you about the ways that a Diocese of Wisconsin can help all of our congregations thrive, and we want to hear your questions, your hopes, and your concerns about this process. We hope that you will read the proposal, which also includes a detailed overview of the proposed financial model and first-year budget of a new diocese, and plan to attend one or more of the Town Hall meetings we will be hosting on Zoom (in July, August and October) and in person (in September). We are still finalizing the Zoom registration for the online meetings and the locations for the in person meetings, but you can find the list of meeting dates and times on the Trialogue website and save the dates that are most convenient for you. We will send more information about the Town Hall meetings in early July.

You can also find the answers to some frequently asked questions about reunion on the Trialogue website. We plan to add to this list regularly, and we hope that you will email your questions to us at [email protected].

Thank you for your prayers, your patience and your faithfulness during this process. Recently, the Trialogue's Prayer and Discernment Task Force shared this new prayer with us, and we offer it to you as you continue your discernment about the opportunity for reunion that lies before us:

Lord,

It is Your voice that calls each of us

To play our part in the story of Your Church in Wisconsin,

For You have made us for Your purpose of revealing love

In a challenging time and in a divided world.

As our three dioceses move forward to become one,

Continuing to seek your will for us,

Enlighten our hearts to know what things we ought to do.

Enlighten our minds to know what things we need to leave behind.

Enlighten our spirits to embrace a future none but You know.

Give us peace, give us courage, give us hope.

And give us perseverance to make the steps necessary to

Continue to follow Your lead. Amen.

Faithfully,

The Rt. Rev. Matthew Gunter
