While the litigation is ongoing, we have seen the impact of hope on this community. With over 700 people living in motel rooms until the County can provide an alternative to sleeping on the street, Orange County has proven that the people were not service resistant-- they had simply not been offered service before.
In Orange County the significant majority of unsheltered people are simply unable to afford rent even while working. They are from Orange County. And they have no where to turn. Our shelters are at capacity. People who have experienced trauma are often unable to be in crowded environments.
The ELDR Center is honored to lead the way in re-thinking how we address homelessness and promoting evidence based solutions instead of unconstitutional criminalization. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with the County to find lasting solutions to the housing crisis and save lives.
