CLIENT VALENTINE'S PARTY

Last Thursday, our staff hosted a Valentine's party for our clients! It was a rainy day and we're glad so many still showed up.

We're a person-centered organization, with a philosophy that every one of clients should be connected to a specific client service representative, so they know exactly who they need to call when they need a disbursement for their trust or help with their benefits. Not a day goes by when we don't talk to clients by phone or email... but it's wonderful to have the chance to connect face-to-face every so often, and we had a great time hearing music, making some art, and eating some chocolate together. Until next time!

Intro to Government Benefits and Special Needs Trusts

Thursday, March 27, 2025, 3:30 PM

Virtual workshop on government benefit basics and how to plan ahead for your Special Needs Trust hosted by JLA Trust Executive Director Michelle Wolf.

WHAT IS A CARE MANAGER?

The umbrella term "disabled" covers a swath of very different people, and JLA Trust's 200+ clients all have varied needs. For some of them, a care manager is a great use of their funds, but not everyone understands the role a care manager can play. We highly recommend this article from Special Needs Alliance if you'd like to get a better handle on what this service look like.

SELF-PACED PLANNING CLASSES

We always say... "hope is not a plan". That's why we're excited to see Caring Futures, The Arc of California's new self-paced planning class for caregivers of people with disabilities. The class includes a comprehensive future planning guide to design a support plan, workbooks, and step-by-step guidance.

BOARD FEATURE

We met Debbie Babb at our Resource Fair last year, and we're proud to welcome her as a new member of our JLA Trust board. As a third-generation attorney and life-long resident of Los Angeles, Debbie’s commitment to family and community has always been at the heart of her estate planning practice. With expertise in special needs planning, general estate planning, and trust and probate administration, Debbie has dedicated her career to creating comprehensive and practical estate plans for families of all types—from traditional and blended families to single-parent and LGBTQ+ households. She collaborates with her clients so that their legacies are thoughtfully preserved and their families are taken care of when they can no longer do so for themselves. Debbie loves the peace of mind her work gives her clients, especially her clients who have children with special needs.

As a new member of the JLA Trust Board, Debbie looks forward to contributing her skills in strategic planning, collaborative problem-solving, and fostering inclusive, forward-thinking initiatives. Empowering families to protect their futures and navigate complex situations is her passion, and she looks forward to working with the JLA Trust Board to help JLA Trust clients and their families.
