My favorite day of work is always the first day of fall classes. Today is the day that our campuses set our intentions and our hearts towards our students. For as long as I have been leading a team, I have always asked those I supervise to step out into the quad during the first class change of the day. I tell them, “look around. This is WHY we are here. Look at the students who are sitting in classes, coming to your office, that you are passing in a hallway or that are simply walking from building to building. These students come from across our state, our region, and from around the globe. They have come to Idaho State University because they have hope, they have dreams, and they have the drive to be here on our campuses. Now, it is up to us to support them. We are here to help guide them, challenge them, and allow them to see and realize the potential inherent in themselves that is so evident to all of us. Whatever your role is, you are impacting these lives and allowing hope and dreams to converge and become reality for these students. I cannot think of a higher calling.”
At Idaho State University, the first day of fall class is one of the days we remind ourselves that students pursuing education to better their lives, is our WHY. As alumni, as friends of this University, and most importantly, as a member of the Bengal Family, I thank you for your support in this noble endeavor.
