FROM THE DESK OF DEENER MATTHEWS

March 30, 2015

Dear Friends of The Swag,

Only one month from reopening and The Swag is abuzz with activity! Dan and I are counting the days now before we return to the mountaintop. It is a joy for me to meet each of our guests and to get to know the amazing people who love coming to The Swag.

Special thanks to our Swagger friend Lisa Unger for her kind mention of The Swag in her recent article, " Lisa Unger on a Co mfort Junkie's Resistance to Adventure Travel" published in the Wall Street Journal. Thank you Lisa, we are touched to be included. Here is the link.

It is an honor to welcome so many returning staff members to The Swag this season. We will have some fresh new faces too including
CHEF ERNEST BLEDSOE
Chef Ernest Bledsoe. We are delighted to welcome Ernest to our team. He is looking forward to getting to know you, and already in search of the best 'farm to table' ingredients from local vendors and growers. He and our Pastry Chef Linda Duckett are also planning new directions in our breads and baked goods.

Jill Metterhausen
is preparing her guest services team for the season, and training new faces in the art of hospitality. You may remember Jill from last season as Julie Katt's assistant in our front office. Jill has been promoted to replace Julie since she has moved on to become the new owner of Blossom on Main, a Thai restaurant on Main Street in Waynesville. Jill is committed to continuing our longstanding tradition of making all guests feel welcome.

I know you will enjoy meeting certifie d plant professional and master gard ener Joyce Griffin who has joined our team as our new horticultur alist. Thanks to Joyce, I know we can expect go od things fr o m The  S wag garden all season!

For Swag guests who are also Tesla vehicle owners, The Swag will soon have its very own 80 amp high-power, Tesla Destination Charging Station. It will be the first of its kind in the Asheville area and will provide quick, complimentary charges for your electric vehicle. We are proud to partner with Tesla on this project, an ecological addition to our Swag amenities that really makes sense.

Must close for now! Mother Nature is beginning to stir in the Smokies. I hope her beauty and spirit encourages you to return to our mountaintop this season.

Warm regards,

P.S. Thanks for all of your good wishes as I face a medical treatment on April 7th. God willing, I will be there to welcome our first guests of the season!
