From the Desk of the President...
This past month, I had the privilege of traveling to Tallahassee to meet with key legislators and officials from the Florida Department of Education during Catholic Days at the Capitol. Our discussions centered on the urgent need for high-quality educational options in South Dade County and the transformative impact La Salle Educational Center is already making. I am proud to share that our mission has been met with strong support at the highest levels of state leadership.
During my visit, I had the opportunity to meet with Representative Kevin Chambliss, who has long advocated for better educational opportunities for his constituents. He spoke candidly about the struggles faced by families in South Dade, where students are often left with no choice but to attend failing, overcrowded public schools that do not meet their needs. Representative Chambliss made it clear that he sees our work as the solution he has been seeking for years, calling the opportunities we provide "second to none."
I also had the opportunity to meet with Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez, Senator Alexis Calatayud, and Representative Jim Mooney, all of whom expressed strong support for our efforts. Their enthusiasm and commitment to improving education in South Dade reaffirm that we are not alone in this mission. They recognize the critical role we play in providing students with a pathway to success and are eager to support our continued growth.
The response from the Florida Department of Education was equally encouraging. Officials there recognize the necessity of expanding access to high-quality, faith-based education, and they see La Salle Educational Center as a model for what is possible. Their support reaffirms that we are on the right path, and with their partnership, we will continue to build something truly remarkable.
But this is just the beginning. As we look ahead, our vision for South Dade County is growing. I have begun to share our long-term plans with key stakeholders, and I can assure you that what lies ahead is nothing short of extraordinary. I invite you to stay engaged and be part of the movement that is gaining momentum. In the coming months, we will reveal a bold new initiative that will redefine education in South Dade.
To all who have stood with us—our benefactors, volunteers, faculty, and families—know that your dedication is being recognized far and wide. Together, we are making history, ensuring that every student in our community has access to the education they deserve.
Stay tuned. The best is yet to come!
In the Spirit of Saint La Salle,
Michael Scaramuzzo
