Feb 20th - Feb 27th Newsletter
All events take place at Willow Glen United Methodist Church (1420 Newport Ave) in February & March, unless specifically stated .

We hope you all enjoyed your three day weekend, or are appreciating a full week off! It was a blast traveling to Magic Mountain and Disneyland with our students. They were all respectful and kind to their leaders, and we saw some new friendships form, which is always wonderful! To check out our pictures from the trip, click on the button below!
Meal help!
There is a Joint Youth Ministry Alumni family who recently gave birth to their second child, and unfortunately are navigating some difficult health issues with their newborn.

We would love to support this family with the small gift of home cooked meals. Currently they are in need of a dinner on Sat Feb. 22nd, and Mon Feb. 24th.

If you are able to help either of these dates, please email Lisa at [email protected] for their address and delivery instructions.

We often refer to the Joint Youth Ministry as a family, and we don't believe that ends when you graduate. We appreciate our wonderful, supportive, community so much and are grateful for anyone who can help us take care these specific alumni who are in need. Thank you.

San Jose City Park Project!
@ Three Creeks Trail & Broadway Ave entrance
Last Service Project of February!
The JYM has been tasked with an important clean-up project for one of our local parks! We'd like for the group to clean up the Historic Iris Garden on 3 Creeks Trail. This section of the trail is between Willow St and Broadway and very close to Willow Glen UMC. It's work that's needed right now; it will help beautify the area, prolong the heritage of this historic site and save a lot time for staff and the Adopt-a-Park volunteer as well.

Please bring a water bottle, wear closed toed shoes, and fill out a volunteer form before arriving.

Please note that we are meeting at the park, and are meeting earlier than usual. Parking can be limited so carpool/plan to get there a few minutes early if not being dropped off. See ya there!

A note from Sue Bowling about directions: People sometimes have a problem finding the correct entrance via Google maps. I find that if you type in "Broadway and Three Creeks Trail", it will point you to the proper trail point. Parking is always limited but it's the best place to meet. The Iris Garden is about halfway down the trail, south towards Willow St. I'll have the truck and trailer visible for all to follow.

Mardi Gras Party!
Topic Tuesday happens to fall on Mardi Gras this month, so join us for a celebration! We will have a pancake dinner, and Pastor Mariellen of Almaden Hills will lead us in some activities that help us understand the tradition behind Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, and the season of Lent.

We hope you will come!
Ash Wednesday Service
February 26th, 7:00pm
@Willow Glen UMC
This is not a "JYM" teen event, but a joint worship service with Almaden Hills, Cambrian Park, and Willow Glen UMCs for all ages. It marks the beginning of Lent & will include the imposition of ashes. Lent is a 40-day season (not counting Sundays) of spiritual preparation for Easter, and all Christian believers are called to observe this holy season by intentional spiritual practices, such as repentance, prayer, fasting, and reading the Bible.

We hope to see you & your family for this special service.
Sunday March 8th

We have limited space available! Please RSVP to Kat at [email protected] if you are planning to attend.
An Afternoon at the Ball Park!
March 29th, 2:00 - 5:30pm
@ Almaden Hills UMC
We need help soliciting businesses for donations! If you can help ask businesses for donations for our auction, please contact Lisa at [email protected]. You can do this on your own time, we have a list of businesses who have received a request form from us, you would be following up in person or over the phone with the local places.
We need your donations, your time, and your talents!
Our annual spring fundraiser is getting close - this year we are introducing a NEW theme - Afternoon at the Ballpark!

Not only is this a fun community event for our youth group and church families, it is also an essential fundraiser that helps our program function at its current level. This is a fundraiser with many moving pieces - but its made easier when we all work together! Here is what we need from YOU:

  1. Donation Items. We are looking for auction baskets, new items we can place in baskets, gift cards, tickets to plays or sporting events, vacation rentals, chicken eggs, parties, and anything else you think people will want to spend their money on! You can donate these items personally, or ask a business your have a good relationship with! You can use our donation letter and donation form to ask for items or gift cards.
  2. Volunteering beforehand! We need five parent volunteers for the auction team to help collect donated items, inventory what we receive, put together baskets, and help the weekend of with arranging donations and figuring out who won what at the end of the evening. If you are interested in that, please email Lisa at [email protected]. We also need three parent volunteers for our food team. Help decide on what appetizers we want to serve, coordinate parent and student volunteers the weekend of, organize kitchen before and after. If you are interested in that job, email Kat at [email protected].
  3. Teenage Talent! A big part of our event is a teenage talent show to end things off. Teens can showcase their singing, instrument playing, dancing, video making, or any other talent for their friends and family! They earn 4 scholarship hours for participating. Please sign-up with the link if you are interested!
Another in depth email about the Afternoon at the Ballpark will be coming to you soon!
CONFIRMATION BEGINS MARCH 1st
Our class will be held on Sundays at 3:00pm-4:30pm before Youth Group with a few Wednesday night alternate meetings, until Confirmation on May 3rd.

This is your chance to become official members of your home churches, not just kids your parents bring along. It is also a great time to ask the deep and confusing questions about your faith.

Please email [email protected] if you'd like more details.
