Maundy Thursday: Facebook Live Worship
Please unite as a church for a Facebook Live worship experience on Maundy Thursday, April 1 at 7:30pm. This 45-minute service remembers the night Jesus gave his mandate (mandatum), ‘love one another.’ We will express worship through music, scripture passages, prayers, communion and listen to the seven words spoken to the cross spoken at Jesus and the seven words spoken from the cross by Jesus while extinguishing candles symbolizing Jesus’ journey toward death. If you have not ordered a Holy Week Kit, please have your symbols of communion prepared for this service. This annual expression of Holy Week worship will prepare you more fully for our celebration on Easter morning.

Community & State Missions Offering 2021
Each year, in the spring, we choose one community need and select a community ministry partner who helps us address this need well. During this pandemic, our community has experienced a pronounced increase of persons facing hunger and food insecurity. So, this year’s Community & State Mission Offering supports the work of Loaves & Fishes. You may have recently heard that Loaves & Fishes is merging with Friendship Trays, the primary meals on wheels program in Charlotte for more than forty years. After two years of research and reflection, they believe that becoming one united team will increase access to and distribution of healthy food and groceries for those in need in Mecklenburg Co. The pandemic has made this shared mission even more critical! Click here to read more about this decision to merge or watch the video below.
You can also learn more about Loaves & Fishes on Monday evening, April 19, from 6-7pm as our Community Connections Zoom Call guest will be Tina Postel, Executive Director of Loaves & Fishes.

If you would like to contribute, you can click the button below or through Realm (choose this offering in the drop-down menu). You can also mail a check to the church with "Community and State Missions" in the memo line.

Sandwich Ministry for Roof Above
Roof Above is in need of sandwiches and St. John’s has signed up to make 200 sandwiches once a month. Pre-pandemic, people have gathered to make the sandwiches at the church. Of course, we cannot do this right now, so we are asking 10 people to make 20 sandwiches on the third Tuesday of each month starting on April 20, 2021. On April 20 from 10am-11am, please drop off your sandwiches at the Broach Hall parking lot area, near the Charlotte Family Housing entrance that faces Hawthorne Lane at St. John’s. From there, a member of the Mission Resource Team will deliver the 200 sandwiches to Roof Above.
On the third Tuesday of each month, please drop off your sandwiches at the Broach Hall parking lot area, near the Charlotte Family Housing entrance that faces Hawthorne Lane at St. John’s between 10am-11am so that someone from the Mission Resource Team can deliver them to Roof Above in a timely manner.

Food Drive on Saturday, March 27
This pandemic year has been especially challenging for persons living with hunger and each of our ministry partners who provide food to them. Therefore, for 8-weeks, from March 21- through May 9, St. John’s will participate in A Season of Sustenance.
We will focus our energies on feeding those persons who are living with hunger. On Saturday, March 27 from 11am-1pm, please drop off non-perishable food items at the Main Entrance for Loaves & Fishes & Friendship Trays. This time coincides with the pick-up for Holy Week Kits so you can knock out two errands at the same time! Bring a few non-perishable food items and get your Holy Week Kit!
Some of the most urgent needs are:
- Canned Green beans
- Canned Green peas
- Canned beans (black, pinto, kidney, etc)
- Canned veggies (low sodium)
- Snack items (like Lance crackers)
- Canned meats
- Canned Fruit
- Pasta
- Low-sugar cereal

Each meeting is one hour in length beginning at 11am each Tuesday on Zoom.
Interested in joining in on this fantastic study? Contact Steve Hoffman (704-604-9634) to register your interest or to ask your questions. We welcome new participants and hope you will join our discussions. You may also reach out to Janet Wade, Dan Biber, or Tricia Miller about your interest.

Vacation Bible School 2021
VBS this year will be an at-home version. In conversation with our partners at St. Martin's, we have decided to err on the side of caution given that we are still in the middle of a pandemic and do not know exactly what the situation will be in June.
We are creating a VBS kit that is filled with stories and crafts for 4 days of learning about Moses helping to lead the Hebrew people out of enslavement and into freedom. No screens are required, however, you will get links to videos of our stories and crafts for the week should you choose to use them. (We know everyone is super burnt out on screens right now!)
Each kit is designed for 1 child (PreK-Grade 5) and is $5.
Kits will be distributed on Sunday, June 6 (time TBD). The deadline for registration is April 30.
