A Note from our Executive Director

Dear Lori,

The last two weeks have been chaotic and disorienting. What is anchoring me at this time is a deep sense of purpose. LEAP has vital work to do, caring for our community. So many of our clients and our employees are immigrants. They feel afraid and anxious. That fear impacts the well-being of the children in our care. It is clear that as an organization, our job is to provide accurate and timely information to our employees and families. We are fortunate to partner with so many great organizations in Santa Barbara County who are disseminating good information. Our job is to get that information the last mile, all the way to our busy families. My job is to do everything in my power to ensure that our families and our staff are safe, know their rights, and know that I have their back.

Last week was my seventh LEAPaversary. I often use that milestone to reflect on our organization’s accomplishments. At this time, however, I am doing more looking forward than looking back. We have important work to do, and we are prepared to do it. That sense of purpose gives me clarity and helps guide me and LEAP through chaos and uncertainty. Guided by our values, LEAP is ready to step up. I hope you will join me.

Warmly,

Lori Lander Goodman

Executive Director

What are ACEs?

Stressful experiences in childhood, known as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), can have lasting effects—but support and awareness can make a difference. By understanding ACEs and using tools like the Stress Busters Wheel, families and caregivers can help prevent and lessen the impact of toxic stress. Click the image to learn more about ACEs and ways to build resilience.

Be a part of the celebration!

Partner Spotlight

We’re grateful for community partners like Mar Monte Hotel! In January, they donated eight bikes to support LEAP families. Now, they’re hosting a diaper drive throughout February to help stock our diaper bank. Drop off diapers at the hotel and make a difference for local families in need!
