SEPTEMBER AT THE LIBRARY
September is a big month at the library!

Today is the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the stories and contributions to our community of Latinx people. To kick off the month, tomorrow we have a very special Stories and Play. The prerecroded stories feature three beloved authors: Angela Dominguez, Matt de la Pena, and Viola Canales reading their books for us. Also in celebration of the month, we have compiled fiction, nonfiction, and general reading and viewing lists.

This week is Welcoming Week, a worldwide effort of organizations and communities to bring together all residents in affirming the importance of welcoming and inclusive places. We are actively celebrating Welcoming Week with a host of online events. Today's Stories from your Community features our RCPL CARES team reading books for children that highlight the stories of people of color. On Saturday, 9/19 we have two Welcoming Week events, a Bystander Intervention Training and An International Stuffed Animal Sleepover. Follow the links to register!
September is also Library Card Sign-up Month. Throughout September we share all the resources you can access with your library card. If you already have a library card, spread the word about signing up. Here are some of the things you can do with your card:

NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY FOUNDATION
Celebrating a Long-Time Donor

Cath Trindle has been supporting the Redwood City Library Foundation for 21 years, from the very beginning of the Foundation itself. She was involved in the library even before that, and at one time was a volunteer with Friends of the Library, delivering books to families.

Cath said that when Proposition 13 was passed, lowering homeowner property taxes, she and her husband decided that they needed to use their tax savings to help support government services whose income was cut, such as parks and libraries. And she has been doing that ever since! Cath believes there are many reasons to support the library because learning is so important. She thinks the Redwood City Library has done a great job of incorporating technology and continuing to help the community. The Foundation thanks Cath and other long-time donors.

Find ways to support the Foundation here.
