“This is Christmas Day--Present my warm regards to Mrs. Moore and all the family to whom I wish many happy returns of this merry-making season” [W.T. Palfrey to Judge John Moore, December 25, 1845]
Join the Shadows-on-the-Teche family for “A Merry-Making Season.” Beginning Friday, Dec. 1, the Shadows will be dressed for the holidays in greenery highlighted with fruits, nuts, and berries. Colorful decorations, antique toys, and a Christmas tree decorated with period ornaments are all featured in period rooms.
“A Merry-Making Season” quoted from the Weeks’ Family Papers, describes their observance of the holiday season. Seasonal tours, focusing on holiday celebrations in the nineteenth century, will begin Saturday, Dec. 2 and continue through Saturday, Dec. 23 during the Shadows normal operating hours. Guided tours of the house will emphasize similarities and differences of the nineteenth century celebrations to the present.
The Shadows is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Guided tours begin 15 minutes past the hour, with the last tour leaving at 3:15 p.m. Admission to Shadows is $10.50 for adults ages 18-64, $8.50 for adults ages 65 and over, and $5.25 for children ages 6-11.
