The theme of our 2025 annual report -- sacred spaces -- is fitting. Buildings and land are a significant part of our story this year.
In January, Central United Methodist Church, in a remarkable act of generosity, transferred ownership of the holy ground where the Downtown Welcome Table launched more than 15 years ago to Haywood Street.
Throughout the spring and summer we collaborated with Rowhouse Architects to reimagine Haywood Street Respite. The renovation now underway will create a larger, more functional space with thoughtful details designed to create a true sense of home for the medically vulnerable individuals who stay with us.
In October we celebrated the near completion of Lady Gloria Ridge, the first of what we hope will be many apartment communities built by Haywood Street Community Development.
And in the final months of the year, the Downtown Welcome Table moved outside again to accommodate Respite construction. We were reminded yet again that whether we serve in the dining room, under a tent, or out on the sidewalk, the essence remains the same: welcome and belonging.
“Place” is not only about buildings or land. It is about meals shared, homes created, friendships formed and every different kind of relational ministry that takes up space on Haywood Street’s holy ground.
With your help we can keep building community through relational ministries that meet some of our neighbors' most urgent needs. Thank you for helping to make it all possible.
