Dorcas Destiny International: Empowering the Most Vulnerable Through Love and Service - Geofrey - Coordinator, Educational Enrichment Program.

There is no doubt that the true measures of any society can be established in how it treats the most vulnerable members. Serving and showing compassion towards women and children has always been at the core of Dorcas Destiny International.

Ministerial outreach, education enrichment programs, and medical camps

comprise the strategy aimed at achieving the organizational vision and mission.

Many women and children in the slums of Nairobi face the harsh reality of

poverty, limited access to education, and healthcare opportunities. No mother

chooses such conditions, and no child chooses to grow up without safe shelters or better healthcare and education opportunities. The simple acts of engagement from Dorcas Destiny International form the foundation of powerful differences that restore dignity and create opportunities for better or improved outcomes.

The little steps of compassion are integral in fostering overwhelming differences in the world.

Restoring Dignity: Helping Prisoners Begin Again with Hope - Anne- DDI Social Worker

In many places, prisoners finish their jail terms but are not released on time. This problem is serious because it is unfair and breaks the promise of justice.

Once a person has served their full sentence, the law says they should be allowed to go home.

But delays happen because of slow paperwork, poor communication between offices, or lack of follow-up. As a result, some prisoners stay locked up longer than they should.

These delays have many negative effects. Prisoners lose their freedom even though they have already completed their punishment. This can make them feel hopeless, angry, and stressed. Families also suffer because they wait longer to be reunited with their loved ones. Plans for work, education, or community life are delayed, making it harder for the prisoner to start fresh.

For the government, it also means extra costs for food and housing when it is no longer needed.

For example, Mary (not her real name) completed her prison sentence but was kept for two extra weeks because of slow paperwork. During the delay, her children stayed with relatives and worried about her, while she felt anxious and hopeless, even though she had already served her punishment. However, not all hope is lost.

Dorcas Destiny International has stepped in to make the situation better through release packages. These packages give prisoners the basic support they need when leaving prison, such as transport to go home, food, clothes, and small items for daily use.

This helps them adjust quickly, reduces stress on their families, and gives them hope as they begin a new chapter of life.

Releasing prisoners on time and supporting them afterward is very important. It restores dignity, builds trust in the justice system, and helps people return to society in a safe and positive way.

When Compassion Takes Action: Carol’s Story of Faith and Feeding. God at Work Through DDI— Carol Nasmiyu - DDI Social Worker

Great day! I hope this finds you well. Truly, it has been by God’s doing that things have unfolded this way.

After leaving Victory School, it wasn’t easy for me. I had grown so used to seeing the children cared for through Dorcas Destiny International, and I couldn’t stop thinking about the many others still in need of that same love and support. I said to myself, ‘No, I can’t just sit back when there are more children who need help.’

So, I took the initiative to visit two nearby schools — Hekima and Neema. I wanted to understand their daily challenges. When I met Pastor Joseph from Hekima, he shared how some children miss school simply because they have nothing to eat. He often buys them snacks just to encourage them to attend. That touched my heart deeply.

At Neema School, the Director cares for several orphans, and seeing his compassion moved me just as much.

That’s when I decided to speak to Donna V. Werner, the founder of DDI. When she asked for the schools’ details, my heart was relieved — because I already knew she has such a big and giving heart.

Now, by God’s grace, for the last two months we’ve been able to feed 150 children from both schools. Each child receives a cup of porridge, and it has truly changed their attitude toward school. Many now attend happily, knowing they’ll have something in their stomachs.

Come next year, the number will grow — and we trust that God will continue to provide.

This is more than feeding children; it’s feeding hope, dignity, and purpose. Donna’s calling and compassion have once again proven that when we say yes to God, He never disappoints.

Attached are the beautiful pictures of the children enjoying their porridge — smiling, laughing, and grateful for the love that reaches them through your generosity.
