Sometimes it is hard to appreciate someone who has lived long before us, but you brought Emily Dickinson’s life to our lives and left an impact on how I will read her poetry for the rest of my life.

Dear Friends,

I wanted to share this reflection from a high school student who recently visited the Museum as part of our Power of Poetry education program. This young person's experience of the Museum reflects everything we endeavor to accomplish through our mission to spark the imagination by amplifying Emily Dickinson’s revolutionary poetic voice from the place she called home.

Dickinson is very much a poet for our times. Written during a period in our country’s history shaped by rapid industrial change, tumultuous political strife, and civil war—Dickinson’s poetry endures because it speaks to individual hearts about universal truths. And her voice—singular, unbounded, and wholly her own—is as revolutionary today as it was in her time.

Through our highly praised guided tours, K-12 poetry-education offerings, community-

building public programs, preservation of our historic site, and our stewardship of the largest collection of objects associated with the poet—our goal is to bring Emily Dickinson’s life, her vibrant independence of mind and spirit, and her creative legacy to you, and to students, teachers, poets, artists, scholars, and visitors from around the world.

All of our program and preservation projects depend on support from friends like you. I know there are many worthy causes and organizations asking for your support this season. As you consider where to direct your charitable gifts, I hope you will consider supporting or increasing your support for the Emily Dickinson Museum. If you have already made a gift this calendar year, thank you.
