Board Chairman Allen Plunkett has taken the reins of KAH and changes are afoot. Chairman Plunkett's Goals are to expand our reach through technology, further develop the talent of our board, and expand our fund raising capabilities to reach more kids.
Each year our board hosts an education and planning retreat to visit first hand our model projects. Past retreats have been held in New York City, St. Lucie County, FL; South Puget Sound, WA; Annapolis, MD; Herndon, VA; and Chicago, IL; and White River, AZ. This year our board is headed to
Yuma County, AZ to visit with juvenile court officials, educators, public housing officials and community leaders. Here is a link to our
board roster which represents the most committed and talented volunteers in the universe and beyond!

Special Message from Rick Miller
Trust you had a lovely and hopeful summer. We had the wonderful opportunity of touring the country over the past several months meeting with so many of our Treasure Hunters, Kids at Hope schools, juvenile justice departments, and youth serving organizations. Kids at Hope is alive and well because adults will not give up on any kid nor will they tolerate anyone who does.
Let me bring you up to date about our collective work. It has been amazing what has been accomplished in just the past 120 days.

Our 11
th
Annual Youth Development Master's Institute was nothing short of spectacular. The Institute's motto
Where Science Meets HOPE
is spot on. The week fed each fellow's intellect and spirit in the most profound ways. We hosted Danny Diaz, whose life and that of his family and community inspired the Disney film McFarland USA, starring Kevin Costner. Harvard Professor Howard Gardner, the father of the theory of multiple intelligence, captivated our intellect with science and insight. James Bell of the Burns Institute spoke with grace and energy about the disproportionality of children of color in our juvenile justice system and how minority youth are more severely treated within school and community disciplinary programs.
We cannot wait until next year when we host our
12th Annual Master's Institute
May 1-5, 2017 in Phoenix, AZ.
SEE YOU AT THE MASTERS!

This is exciting! One of the most potent expressions about Kids at Hope has to do with the number
"10."
From the very beginning of our work 23 years ago we asked the question,
Do you believe all children are capable of success, No Exceptions? We offered numbers from 1-10 to determine the level of belief. The number "1" represented the lowest acceptance or belief in the statement and "10" the highest.
Our research states that children and youth need "10's in their lives. Many students have 10's and many do not. No child or youth need adults who will find reasons they may not succeed.
So its time to honor the 10's in kids lives. Therefore, on October (10
th month of the year) on the 10
th day of that month we are asking all KAH projects, programs, partners, every group and everyone to pause, reflect and honor the 10's in kids lives.
We will be sending more information about this powerful launch date. And we aren't done. After the launch, and beginning in November, we would like to sustain the importance of observing and honoring 10's. We ask that we find a way on the 10
th of each month to continue the celebration.
