Bean Tree Farm
Desert Foods and Inspiration
Bean Tree Farm is located in Dancing Rocks Community, a residential development nested in 20-acres of lush Sonoran Desert food forest featuring Saguaro, Ironwood, Foothills Palo Verde, Mesquite, Prickly Pear, Cholla, Ocotillo, Acacia, perennial and annual herbs, vines and more.
They blend desert foods, earth care, rainwater harvesting, natural building and education in a hands-on artisan way. They explore and share a way of living that honors the nature and culture of our desert environment, inspiring the "rewilding" of urban and suburban communities to build resilience and food security, and empower folks with creative pathways to do so.
They offer what they have learned through:
- hands-on workshops feature seasonal desert foods & herbs, natural building, earth-care, and creative arts
- farmstands and tastings
- desert walks, tours, and harvests
- public demos and talks in and around Tucson in collaboration with like-minded organizations
Bean Trees also provide nutritious, tasty seeds and pods, and thrive on seasonal rainfall.

Wildlife Cameras
Providing Valuable
Information to Scientists
A recent KGUN9 online 9Newsnavigator article explains that in an effort to provide park leaders with information on wildlife, 60 cameras were set up by the National Park Service’s Sonoran Desert Network across Saguaro National Park West. “Using this kind of information, we can inform park managers about what the changes are that we’re seeing over time,” Scientist and Program Manager Andy Hubbard said.
The article, written by Madison Thomas, explains that "the program was first piloted in 2016. Now, almost a decade later, cameras are set up at three locations throughout the year: Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Chiricahua National Monument and Saguaro National Park West."
