Opportunities for Early Career Researchers Abound in SWOG

2025 Vogelzang GU Scholar Announced

Dr. Alex Zhu, an instructor and urologic oncology fellow at the University of Washington, has been named the 2025 Vogelzang GU Scholar. The honor comes with support to attend both of this year's SWOG group meetings, as well as placement with a mentor from the SWOG genitourinary committee.

Nicholas Vogelzang, MD

The Vogelzang program was established in honor of the late SWOG GU leader, mentor, and friend Dr. Nicholas J. Vogelzang and includes an annual symposium held at SWOG group meetings.

This spring's symposium will take place Friday, May 2 from 4:15-6:15pm PT and will address the topic, Moving into the 21st Century of Urologic Tumors: The Role of AI.

SWOG and Hope to Honor 25 Years of Early Stage Investigator Training Course

The Hope Foundation is dedicated to demonstrating impact through our funding programs supporting SWOG members and their research.

In 2025, we’re celebrating 25 years of the Early Stage Investigator Training Course. 126 incredible SWOG members have successfully completed the program, and many have gone on to lead practice-

changing clinical trials. They’ve given hundreds of presentations and published thousands of important papers.

A special poster display at the spring group meeting in San Francisco will highlight 6 recent ESITC participants currently leading SWOG studies. Each has graciously agreed to share their work and talk about their experience navigating the network and engaging with their mentors.

Poster presenters will be available to discuss their work during the Plenary Reception on Friday, 1-2pm PT. If you’re attending the spring group meeting in person, please be sure to ask them about their experiences!

2025 ESITC Applications Due June 3

Support the ESITC through the Tour de Scottsdale April 12!

Team Hope is raising $25,000 to ensure the ESITC can continue to train the next generation of SWOG trialists – please consider supporting their effort. Every dollar donated directly funds the program.
