As 2025 comes to a close, we find ourselves filled with gratitude as we mark a truly special milestone. This year, we celebrate 70 years of walking alongside our community with compassion, care, and a deep belief in the dignity of every person.
Since 1955, NSO has grown and evolved in response to the needs of Detroiters. What began as a small, community-rooted effort brought together three settlement houses with a shared purpose. From those early days, NSO has listened closely, learning from the people we serve and adapting our approach as times and challenges changed.
Throughout the decades, NSO’s work has taken many shapes. The organization expanded beyond its original roots to support children, families, older adults, and individuals facing homelessness, mental illness, and other complex barriers. As new needs emerged, NSO responded with creativity and care, building programs and partnerships that reflected a commitment to meeting people where they are and supporting the whole person.
This long history of service has shaped who we are today. NSO continues to be guided by equity, innovation, and compassion, always focused on helping individuals find stability, healing, and hope. Each chapter of our story is connected by a simple truth. When people are supported with dignity and respect, stronger communities are possible.
None of this would have been possible without you. Your generosity and belief in our mission have helped sustain NSO through seven decades of change and growth. Because of your support, the work has continued, lives have been touched, and hope has remained at the center of everything we do.
As we look ahead to 2026, we carry forward the lessons and love of the past 70 years with excitement and purpose.
Together, we will continue creating pathways to housing, health, and well-being and ensuring that whole-person care remains within reach for our community.
