A Strong Day for Denturists on Parliament Hill
The Denturist Association of Canada (The DAC) held a very productive Day on Parliament Hill today, meeting with Ellen Galupo, Deputy Director of Policy with the Office of the Hon. Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families, as well as Members of Parliament Tamara Kronis (Nanaimo—Ladysmith), Adam Chambers (Simcoe North), and Kristina Tesser Derksen (Milton East—Halton Hills South).
These discussions brought together voices from across party lines, with MPs bringing diverse backgrounds in law, finance, and community leadership to meaningful conversations on improving access to oral health care for Canadians.
Denturists were well represented by The DAC's: Mallory Potter, Executive Director, Jaro Wojcicki Jr., President, and Michael Vout, Vice President of Professional Relations.
Discussions focused on key priorities within the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), including the need to restore predictability and protect patients through transparent, forward-looking policy implementation. We highlighted concerns regarding recent retroactive policy changes, reimbursement uncertainty, and barriers to care—particularly the exclusion of patients with dental implants—and advocated for the introduction of an Alternate Benefit Clause to prevent vulnerable patients from falling through coverage gaps.
We also emphasized the importance of expanding Canada’s Student Loan Forgiveness Program to include denturists, recognizing their essential role in serving rural, remote, and underserved communities and supporting long-term workforce sustainability.
The day reinforced the critical role denturists play in delivering equitable, accessible oral health care across Canada.
