A Summer Worth Celebrating

What an active summer! There was truly something for everyone at YWCA, from new fitness offerings like line dancing, pickleball opportunities and basketball camps.

Across our programs, preschoolers built confidence through art, Eurekans explored STEM on college campuses and 1,500 women and girls crossed the finish line at YWCA Minneapolis Women’s Triathlon. It was a summer filled with courage, connection and possibility!

Art, Empathy and the Power of We Care

At YWCA Minneapolis Early Childhood Education Centers, art is more than creative expression; it’s a tool for building confidence, self-regulation and compassion.

Senior Enrichment Specialist Tricia Olson Pauly helped create YWCA’s We Care curriculum, which uses everyday learning experiences to help children care for themselves, one another and their larger community.

“Art brings me hope. Art is in everything!”

Eureka! Meets YWCA Tri

This summer, Eureka! participants Zoe and Naija traded STEM labs for race bibs, merchandise and finish-line energy as the first interns to work alongside the YWCA Women's Triathlon team.

From answering racer questions and attending Tri Social Tuesdays to inventory and event setup, they got a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to bring one of YWCA's largest community events to life.

But what stood out most was the community.

“Every single person has said, ‘It's so great you're here, it's so nice to meet you!’ There's a lot of enthusiasm.” — Zoe

A Record-Setting Year of Support

The YWCA Tri community showed up in a big way this year. More than 15 teams and six individuals raised over $14,000 — our strongest race fundraising total since 2018 and more than double last year’s fundraising.

Behind every racer were hundreds of volunteers helping make race weekend possible.

VIP Race Captain Meg Kelly knows that magic firsthand. After crossing the finish line at her first YWCA Tri, she found a new way to give back to the community she loves. Read about Meg’s journey.

Taking Up Space in STEM

For six weeks this summer, Eureka! participants weren't just visiting a college campus, they were doing the work of scientists.

Through a new partnership with St. Catherine University, participants chose chemistry, biology or physics tracks and learned alongside undergraduate and graduate students before presenting their own final projects.

The pilot gave Eurekans an opportunity to experience STEM in a college environment, and see themselves belonging there.
