Hello Manna,

As the warmth of summer settles in, I am so grateful and excited to share some recent Manna milestones with you. Summer is always a great time for us to connect with our community and share the abundance of local growers with our neighbors experiencing hunger.

In that spirit of abundance, I want to highlight some recent media coverage that centers on the work of local farmers and the innovative partnerships Manna has established to strengthen our food system and support the capacity of local growers, like The Farm at Our House. Check out the full article below and make sure not to miss the additional coverage of our friends at Ride On, who completed yet another successful Ride On Food Drive to stock our warehouse in this period of increased need.

Beyond Manna, there’s even more to celebrate this month, as June marks the observance of Pride month, Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness month, and the historic Juneteenth celebration of freedom. These remind us of the importance of human dignity, advocacy, and the continuous fight against systemic inequalities. Manna Food Center remains committed to uplifting marginalized voices and ensuring that everyone has access to nourishing food.

Read on to catch these stories and more—keep a look out for the upcoming Breaking Bread where we’ll gather to discuss how transportation access can impact hunger. Save the date: on July 19th, Manna Food Center will be celebrated as a Community Hero at the Bethesda Big Train game, where we traditionally gather with volunteers, donors, and staff to enjoy some summer fun. I do wish you and your loved ones a safe, enjoyable season.

Thanks for making Manna’s work possible year-round!

Join Us Next Month: July Breaking Bread

Last month we gathered in person to break bread and discuss the recent decrease in SNAP benefits, and what that could mean for our most vulnerable populations. Join us next month for a virtual conversation on transportation access and how it impacts food access, facilitated by William Clements from Gaithersburg Help.

Wednesday, July 19th 12pm-1pm.
