FARM

Moving Toward Sustainability

New Farmstand Opens May 11th!

We are so excited to announce that the new farmstand opens for weekend hours beginning May 11th - starting with our plant sale. As we anticipate the opening, we wanted to share some of the decisions made as we designed the new farmstand as a model of sustainable construction, demonstrating how buildings can be functional, beautiful, and environmentally conscious.

The stand serves as our sales area and also houses our vegetable wash area, cooler, CSA distribution, and demonstration kitchen. The design showcases a unique blend of traditional and cutting-edge techniques, with a rooftop solar array to generate the energy needed to power all of the farm's buildings.

Our architect, Payette, included energy-saving passive house strategies, such as thoughtful window placement and overhangs which naturally warm and cool the space, and skylights, sliding doors, and ceiling fans to promote natural ventilation.

The choice of renewable wood products like timber framing, thick wood fiber insulation, and CLT (cross-laminated timber) leave a smaller "carbon-footprint" compared to concrete, steel, and brick. Look for more info on the stand and changes to the farm in the coming weeks!

The Rain Couldn't Stop Us from Celebrating!

Thanks to all who braved the rainy morning and came out to celebrate Earth Day and the farm's 44th birthday. Despite the weather, it was a fun-filled day with great music, local food, and community! Special thanks to Flower Box Gardens for hosting their flower potting shed, to the helpful volunteers from Weston High School and The Village Bank, and to all of our partners who helped make the day extra special!

Local High Schoolers Plan Community Tree Planting

Land's Sake was pleased to host a tree planting program during the Earth Day event, coordinated by local high schoolers from Cambridge School of Weston's Sustainability Committee and Weston High School’s Environmental Club, who sold and distributed tree saplings to Weston residents through Tree-Plenish.

Working with Tree-Plenish, students aim to host community tree planting events based on how much energy their schools use. Over 230 trees were distributed at the farm on Earth Day!

Meet the New Land's Sake Farm Bunnies!

Welcome to the farm: Mochi and Hazelnut! Mochi (also known as Chichi and Mochichi) and Hazelnut (also known as Hazel, and HayHay) are 1-year-old sister Flemish Giant mixes. They love cuddles, clover, dandelions, and most of all: each other! Come say 'hi' and offer them some grass, or join us in a program to meet them up close.
