Giving Hope and Time
Karen Ambrogi, Communications Manager at Lazarex Cancer Foundation
Dear Friends:

Wow - it's already mid May and we are heading into summer! Growth has been the theme here lately. We have a lot of patients who need our help. Every day a phone call or an e-mail from someone fighting cancer drives home the point that we are filling a great need.

Thankfully our support base is growing, as well as our sphere of influence for moving the dial towards solving the problems of patient access to clinical trials. We are starting to receive patients through our IMPACT program launched here in CA, with funding from AMGEN, our IMPACT Founding Partner.

We recently completed 2 fundraising events. The Lazarex IMPACT 5.44K and our Big Sur International Marathon team collectively raised $37,500 for our program services. Much appreciation goes to all who participated.

Read on to catch some highlights and as always, thank you. We are so grateful for the waves of support from our donors, sponsors, grantors and volunteers. These waves form a tide of love that truly deliver the gifts of hope and time. You can see it in action in this video: This Tide of Love

Warmest Regards,

Very Important Patient Update:
A Milestone For Mike & His Family

Mike has been a Lazarex patient since 2012!

"I thought you'd like to know I published a book about my cancer journey on Amazon as a Kindle e-book. It's called No Treatment Options Left. It's my journey from the point of losing my leg until we found AG-120 (through a clinical trial) and confirmed it was working.

Without your help getting to my clinical trial, writing about my journey would have ended a few years ago as a series of e-mails to my family and friends. And everyone would be talking about me in the past tense. But I'm here and have a story to share. We love you all. Thank you from all of us!" ~ Mike and his family

Breaking Barriers to Bring Hope to Cancer Patients
DC Pro RT Panel 1
On May 8th Lazarex Cancer Foundation and Critical Mass: The Young Adult Cancer Alliance convened discussions in D.C. with thought leaders in oncology, public health, private industry, patient advocacy and public policy. The goal was to spark discussions that prompt policy and action to increase patient participation in cancer clinical trials and improve data sharing. This event was open to the public and media. Get details about panelists and panels here.

On May 9th Lazarex organized closed door meetings on the Hill hosted by Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX) and Ranking Member Eric Swalwell (D-CA) to discuss with pharmaceutical company CEOs how to improve patient access to cancer clinical trials and bring life-saving drugs to market faster. Then get moving to making needed changes now.

Time is Treasure, Board Member Elizabeth Dale
We want to acknowledge our Board Member Elizabeth Dale, a longtime friend, mentor and donor to Lazarex Cancer Foundation. Elizabeth joined our board in 2014 and serves as Executive Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Read Elizabeth's Bio Here.

Elizabeth is gracious, generous and a fierce fundraiser. She ran a strong campaign during our IMPACT 5.44K and, as Team Dale, raised over $4,500 in under 2 weeks! She probably didn't break a sweat doing it either...

Volunteering is love in action. Thank you Elizabeth, how you give is as treasured as what you give.
Lazarex Fun Fact
In April about 175 people nationwide participated in the inaugural Lazarex IMPACT 5.44K. Together we raised over $22,000 for our program services and the patients we serve! Thanks to the Cambridge University Lacrosse Club in England we can say it was a global event! Click here to view 5.44K photos
