Free Industry Courses
Uof L’s Center for Digital Transformation consortium has partnered with multiple technology organizations to provide several free industry courses for those interested in developing their digital skills. By completing one of the listed courses, you may also have the opportunity to achieve that vendor's industry "badge" or certificate/certification. Several are FREE, such as the IBM Design Thinking Practitioner Badge. These badges are digital credentials that you are awarded after passing certain levels of assessment. Some assessments are free and some are not depending on the level you choose. Carefully read course descriptions and look for the "no cost" identification. Once you reach the level of assessment determined by the technology organization, then the badges/credentials can be displayed and listed on your resume, LinkedIn account or other professional document.
Service Spotlight: Give Blood
Blood donations have drastically declined amid the coronavirus crisis, which has left the American Red Cross in desperate need of donors. If you are able, please consider making a life-saving donation. Here's a Louisville opportunity happening next week:

Wednesday and Thursday, April 8-9
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
KFC Yum Center • One Arena Plaza, Louisville, KY 40202

Healthy donors of all blood types are needed. To manage donors appropriately in alignment with social distancing guidelines, all donors must make an appointment in advance. No walk-ins will be allowed. Individuals can schedule an appointment at redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor keyword: KFCYUM

The Parking Authority of River City will provide free parking for blood drive participants in the Yum! Center parking garage. Donors must enter from the west side of the main entrance off Main Street. This entrance is also accessible from the elevator located on the Third Street side of the parking garage.

CyberSecurity Risks to Review

Video-teleconferencing (VTC) and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) platforms are under scrutiny as hackers exploit their vulnerabilities and access information on millions of users. The FBI issued a  public service announcement   on April 1 regarding the prevalence of “cyber actors taking advantage of COVID-19 pandemic to exploit increased use of virtual environments.”

As many of us use VTC platforms and VoIPs, here are the FBI’s tips  on how to use these tools safely:
  • Do not make meetings or classrooms public. Restrict access to remote meetings, conference calls or virtual classrooms. Include a password, if possible.
  • Do not share a link to a teleconference or classroom on an unrestricted publicly available social media post. Provide the link directly to specific people.
  • Do not enable remote desktop access functions like Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) or Virtual Network Computing (VNC) unless absolutely needed.
  • Ensure users are using the updated version of remote access/meeting applications.

If you were a victim of a VTC hijacking or any cyber-crime, report it to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.  Additionally, if you receive a specific threat during a teleconference, please report it to  tips.fbi.gov .
