Dear friends and neighbors,
This week, we returned to Washington ready to work across the aisle for Central Florida. In the 117th Congress, House Democrats led one of the most productive sessions in over 50 years. Now, the 118th Congress led by Republicans is the least productive in over 50 years. This contrast is rooted in dysfunction, as extreme MAGA Republicans have been unwilling to compromise for the good of the nation.
The House must work with President Joe Biden and the Senate Democratic Majority to pass a bipartisan budget, a supplemental budget for disaster relief, Ukraine, Israel, and border security funding, a Farm Bill, and reauthorization of the FAA this term. We will require vision, hard work, and compromise to meet the moment.
We also delivered two key projects for Central Florida this week: An up to $289 million Cornerstone Award for defense microchip manufacturing at NeoCity and $5 million for 20 new electric school buses for Orange County Public Schools.
In the Energy and Commerce Communications and Technology Subcommittee, we discussed the importance of passing internet privacy laws and strengthening U.S. cybersecurity. Telecommunications is critical infrastructure, and the government must protect consumers from potential data breaches and cyberattacks.
In the district, we hosted the first Coffee with the Congressman of 2024 in Lake Nona. We joined local leaders to discuss I-4 and Boggy Creek Road expansions, new tech jobs in simulation and autonomous vehicles, securing Coast Guard JROTC for Innovation High School, affordable housing, and more.
We also visited Harmony High School to share highlights of my time in public service and answer questions about our Constitution, major jobs and conservation projects we’re delivering, Venezuela TPS, and internship opportunities.
I'm proud of our accomplishments this week and look forward to continuing our work to improve the lives of Central Floridians next week.

OP-ED: A Tale of Two Sessions
|
|
In the 117th Congress, the House Democratic Majority led one of the most productive sessions in over 50 years. We passed the American Rescue Plan, the Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, the PACT Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act, among 362 other public laws.
Now, the 118th Congress led by Republicans is rooted in dysfunction and inability to govern.

Discussing Water Priorities for Central Florida
|
|
The Everglades Caucus met with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the South Florida Water Management District to discuss Florida priorities in the upcoming Water Resources Development Act. Millions rely on this water resource. We are requesting restoration projects for Boggy Creek, the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, and Lake Conway to protect clean water, promote recreation, and preserve wildlife.
|
|
We then had the opportunity to sit down with the South Florida Water Management District in our office to discuss our work to restore Shingle Creek, Big Lake Toho, and the Northern Everglades for clean water, flood control, recreation, and wildlife preservation.
