Below are July 2022 excerpts from On the House, a blog TSAHC launched in 2014 on affordable housing topics. In June 2020, we launched a podcast as part of our blog. We invite you to drop by On the House or listen to our podcasts as we explore important issues, provide an inside look into our programs, and share other valuable resources.
Podcast Episode 25: How Affordable Housing is Made
If you've been following TSAHC or our On The House podcast series, you'll likely be familiar with the fact that we are big fans of affordable housing. But have you ever wondered how affordable housing opportunities are created? Come and chat with us as our host Frank Duplechain III and David Danenfelzer, TSAHC's Senior Director of Development Finance, delve into the development side of the affordable housing industry!
TSAHC Spotlight Series: Hamilton Valley Management
This 21-property development portfolio includes 802 newly rehabilitated units of multifamily rental housing in 20 different cities across the state of Texas. Most of these properties are also located within rural or smaller urban areas, providing much needed affordable housing to families within these communities.

Hamilton Valley Management Incorporated is a property development and management company that specializes in affordable multifamily housing in rural areas of Texas. With nearly 4,000 units under their management, over 3,000 units developed into affordable housing, and more than 70 combined years of multifamily real estate knowledge, Hamilton Valley is a highly experienced affordable housing developer.
The State of the Nation’s Housing Report
Each year, the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University (JCHS) publishes their State of the Nation's Housing report documenting the pace of housing production, cost of housing, and changing market conditions and household indices.

Released last month, the State of the Nation's Housing 2022 report's main finding is that there should be some relief to high housing costs as rising interest rates are taking "some heat out of the homebuying market," and for renters, a robust pipeline of units under construction are allowing supply to catch up with demand. However, for lower-income households and households of color, the report notes that "the pressure of housing costs is unlikely to relent."
