Season of Thanks

The Thanksgiving holiday is approaching, and it gives us a time to reflect. At YESS, we are immensely grateful for our supportive community as we know we could not do the critical work of keeping kids safe without your help.

We hosted a Thanksgiving meal for youth and staff, complete with corn bread and pumpkin pie, for those who might not be able to be home with their families over the holiday. This time of year can be chaotic for many, but the spirit of giving is alive and well as we start to move into December. We appreciate every donor, volunteer, community partner and friend of ours in the community!

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." - John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Upcoming Events

The 5th Annual Drink Mules event at the Copper Cup (207 4th St, Des Moines) is less than three weeks away! Join us 5:00-7:00pm on Tuesday, December 10 as guest bartenders and YESS agency volunteers, Stephanie Filer and Jessica Durand, mix drinks, generously donating their tips to buy gifts for the youth who will wake up at YESS on Christmas morning. Copper Cup's owner, Eric, is generously donating a portion of the sales that night as well. You won't want to miss this holiday event!

Professionals for Charity will be holding its holiday party on Thursday, December 19 from 5:00 - 7:00pm at the Iowa Taproom. Professionals for Charity (P4C) was founded in 2012 to raise money and awareness for charitable organizations in Iowa that benefit children, and this event will benefit YESS. Cost is $50/per person, or the equivalent in experience gift cards (see event invite below for details) and admission will include food and beverages. Click here for more information!
TEAM YESS SHOUT OUT

"Calling out" our friends at Wells Fargo ! Because of a very generous grant, YESS recently upgraded its entire phone system to improve accessibility to agency programs and meet our day-to-day business needs. The agency’s previous phone system was donated in the 1990s(!) and served as the lifeline for our agency for many decades. It was time to invest in a modern phone system that meets our growing needs, and we are so grateful to Wells Fargo for supporting this time-sensitive need and investing in YESS’ organizational capacity!
Help Spread Holiday Cheer

YESS is grateful for the support of the community throughout the year and especially during the holiday season. A time that is often filled with joy, laughter, and new memories can also be a time of uncertainty, stress, and sadness for some of our clients. But with the help of the community, we can provide a little bit of cheer to the children and families served by YESS this holiday season.

Our Adopt-a-Family program opportunities have been fulfilled but there are still ways to get involved with YESS during this holiday season. Jana Daisy, our Community Activities Manager can guide you in how to get involved. You can email Jana at [email protected].
Spark the Spirit

Vote here for #TeamYESS! The Veridian Credit Union Spark the Spirit campaign kicked off Thursday, November 21 and goes through Sunday, December 1 at midnight.
