Thankfulness in a Crisis:
Being thankful in a time of crisis can be challenging. With so much change, fear, and uncertainty, it can be difficult to both feel thankful and offer words of thankfulness to others. Feeling thankful can feel odd – or even wrong – when others are suffering and close friends may be hurting. Offering words of thankfulness may come across as cold and unfeeling. And yet, we all need thankfulness for our wellbeing. Even during a time of grave danger or loss, thankfulness is a sustaining feeling. Therefore, we must find new ways to be and express thankfulness so we can function at our best and help others find a path forward.
Lesson to Learn:
I need to develop new ways of being thankful and expressing thankfulness to others during these challenging times.
Answer for Me:
I need to develop my new awareness of thankfulness during this period of time. Small things, small actions, and the special people around me everywhere offer me a chance to be thankful.
Action:
Identify, each day, who and what I am genuinely thankful for. I will make a list if it helps me to remember them.
Daily Habit:
Spend a few moments at the beginning of my day recalling what I am thankful for today. Thank others for what they are doing to help me or for their very presence in my life during this challenging period.
