Marifrans Castillo de Estrada!
Even though southwest Florida may not experience the kind of changes that the fall season brings to other parts of the country, the fall season for Misión Peniel has brought some significant changes worthy of sharing!
Some things change… On September 1st, the mission welcomed a new mission coordinator, Marifrans Castillo de Estrada. Many of you already know or have been introduced to Marifrans as the coordinator for the mission’s homebound ministry, “Pan de Vida” (Bread of Life). This role continues! Others may know that Marifrans is married to Pastor Miguel Estrada and has been a longtime volunteer at the mission since its beginnings in 2006.
After a two month search process and several interviews with other candidates, Marifrans was recommended for the part-time position. She has numerous qualifications for this position; most importantly that she knows the farmworker community well and has been involved with it in many capacities for 15 years. Marifrans has degrees in Culinary Arts and Business Administration, and a compassionate heart for mission ministry. God has blessed Marifrans with the gifts of organization, creativity and hospitality, which are being shared with the mission in her new role as mission coordinator.
In addition to her work with Pan de Vida, Marifrans also works directly with churches and other groups and individuals to coordinate volunteers for Friday food and commodities distribution, special collection campaigns, on site programs and office business. She sees volunteers as a vital part of the mission and its Christ like witness in Immokalee:
“Being a volunteer represents the opportunity to give someone else a little of ourselves. It is an act of sowing the seeds of example, love, dedication, and commitment.”
Some things remain familiar… At the same time Marifrans began her new role, Ruth DeYoe, familiar to many as the mission coordinator since 2017, began focussing her role as part-time communications coordinator, overseeing mission correspondence, grants, website and social media presence. This is a remote position, allowing Ruth to continue this work with the mission after moving to Minnesota at the end of August.
Please note: Marifrans is available to come to visit churches or organizations and share more about the mission and get to know YOU better!
