We Had A Totally June-ique Start To Summer!

We kicked off this month by saying farewell to another spectacular school year, and now... Summer is finally here! Our summer camps are well underway, and campers are having an absolute blast. Each week, a different theme inspires them to explore, learn, and play while staying engaged and avoiding learning loss, otherwise known as "summer slide." And it's all possible because of YOU!

We hope you will take a minute to watch the video below to see just a few of the smiling faces YOU made possible this month!

Look At What We've Been Up To!

A Roaring Good Time!

Our St. Michaels Site took a super fun trip to the Salisbury Zoo! They got to see alpacas, beavers, Spider Monkeys, bison, flamingos, Harlequin Poison Frogs, and many more animals. Back in the classroom, the children gathered round to cheer on both the St. Michaels Elementary School 5th graders who transitioned to Middle School, and as the graduating high school seniors. Students also made special Father’s Day gifts for their favorite fellows!

Party Animals!

The first week of summer camp was a flurry of activity at our White Marsh Site! Mr. Tom from 4-H visited to teach the kids about the summer solstice. They spent lots of time playing games, and made bugs and other creatures out pipe cleaners. The highlight of the week was when they took a "paws" for a visit from Party Animals petting zoo!

Fitness Fun!

At our School Age Site in Easton, campers were all about fitness! Ms. Karen came for a relaxing summer yoga session. The children enjoyed Zumba classes with Ms. Shaun from BOSS Fitness. They ran basketball drills with Coach Tay. And of course, everyone spent tons of time on the playground. In between sports activities, the kids created lots of great crafts and worked together to make and share tasty treats!

A New Home For Summer Adventure!

In Cordova, the children are really enjoying their first summer camp sessions in their brand new classrooms! During the first week of camp, they celebrated Spirit Week, and the creativity was off the charts, with an epic Silly Hair Day, Tie Dye Day, and more! The new classrooms also have lots of engaging learning stations, and the campers are loving getting to know the new spaces and exploring all the fun they have to offer!

Jump Start To Joy!

At our Preschool Site, the children had a blast with Mr. Lilo from Jump Start with the Arts, who sang songs, played instruments, and did some puppetry with them. Thank you to Busy Graham, Leslie Adelman, and CeCi Noble for making this awesome program possible through Carpe Diem Arts! Each class also enjoyed its own Spirit Week this month. Some of the highlights included Mickey and Minnie Mouse Day, Crazy Sock Day, Crazy Sunglasses Day, and Hat Day!

Coming Home To Cordova!

We are thrilled to announce that we moved in to our brand new Cordova Site this month! When our teachers showed the children their new classrooms, they were over the moon. The photos here don't quite do the space justice. Gone are the harsh cafeteria lights, replaced by warm and welcoming daylight. The children now play at engaging learning stations, where they can let their imaginations run wild, explore new activities, and have fun with friends.

In addition, the center includes a new Site Director's office and teacher work room, both of which have been needed at the site for some time.

Construction continues around us, more furniture is on the way, and we will be sharing the space with the school for the 2025-2026 school year, but we are so happy in our new home, and look forward to being fully settled in!

Thank you to each and every one of the donors who made this project possible. Not only are we able to double the number of school age children we serve in Cordova, but these spaces will greatly enhance the quality of their learning experience at Critchlow Adkins Children's Centers.

We cannot have an official ribbon cutting until the full Chapel Elementary School renovation comes to a close, but we would LOVE to show you the new site. If you would like to arrange a time for a tour, please reach out to Liz Connelly at lconnelly@cacckids.org or 410-822-8061.

Meet Kay Perkins and Ellen Bodorff!

Maybe we are a bit biased, but we think we have the best Board of Directors around. It's always sad when we have to say goodbye to wonderful Board Members, who have meant so much to Critchlow Adkins. As we prepare to welcome new Board Members in July, we wanted to take a moment and thank two special ladies who have made a big impact on our organization. Kay Perkins and Ellen Bodorff have both served on the Board of Directors for 6 years, and have been active members of our Development Committee.

Kay and Ellen, we could not be more grateful to you! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for putting your incredible energy and passion into our mission for so many years!

If you see Kay and Ellen out and about, please be sure to thank them for their efforts in helping Build Brighter Futures for local children and their families!

Best of the Best!

It's that time of year again... Nominations are open in the APG Best of the Best Chesapeake contest! Thanks to you, Critchlow Adkins Children's Centers as been named Best Childcare every single year that this contest has been opened. We are calling on your support once again to help us reclaim our title.

As you are supporting your other favorite local businesses, we would be very grateful for your nomination in the Best Childcare and Best Preschool categories. Nominations run through July 20th, and you can nominate as often as once per day. The businesses with the most nominations in each category will move on to the voting round.

Thank you so much for your support! To us, YOU are the best of the best!

A June STEAM Project YOU Can Do At Home!

Few things evoke the feeling of summer like playing with bubbles outside on a beautiful summer's day! You can throw a little science and engineering into your bubble time with some fun bubble-themed STEAM!

Bubble Trouble Read Aloud

As always, before STEAM fun, it's always great to grab some inspiration from a good book! This month's book is Bubble Trouble, by Margaret Mahy. In the story, Mabel's bubble floats away with her baby brother inside. The book follows the community's comical efforts to rescue him. Finally, they devise a clever and funny rescue where the baby is caught safely!

Now it's time to float into fun with some awesome bubble STEAM. The best part is that these activities can be done with supplies that you likely already have lying around your house! Click the buttons below to get started!

As always, be as creative as you want, and have lots of fun learning together! Follow our Facebook and Instagram pages to see a new STEAM project every week on "STEAM Saturday!"
