2022. The year of resilience and growth.

Emerging out of the pandemic and restoring a sense of normalcy has meant the ability to host our annual Bowl & Brew Fundraiser, Yard Competition, and in-person workshops! We are grateful to have grown to reach 31 years as an organization and have a lot in store for the next year!

Community Spotlight

Brian Chapman

Brian is one of our proud homeowners in Fair Park Estates. We were thrilled to help Brian become mortgage ready four years ago. With Mary Ann’s housing counseling/financial coaching and motivation, he stayed the course and was diligent in paying down a debt to be able to purchase his first home. We love that Brian is so proud, not only of his home, but of the South Dallas neighborhood. Brian is always one of the first homeowners to participate in a neighborhood activity 😊 Here's more about Brian!

Where born: St. Joseph, MO

Favorite Restaurant:

So many to choose from. One of the benefits living in South Dallas is Downtown, Deep Ellum and even North Oak Cliff are close and there is so much variety of different restaurants. I also enjoy Blackjack Pizza and Two Podners right in the neighborhood.

Family:

My parents are in Nebraska (that’s where I grew up). I have two sisters (I’m the oldest). I also have a dog, Bandit. 

Famous person you would most like to meet: Elon Musk. Kind of a polarizing person, but admire his business acumen. 

Words that best describe you best: laid back and easygoing

In your spare time, you... I occasionally enjoy watching football games this time of year at different restaurants and bars. I enjoy going to the gyms a few days during the week. When the weather is nice going on walks around white rock lake and around the neighborhood.

If you've learned one thing in life, it is... Always keep your faith. God works in mysterious ways and when you keep your faith in him, it usually works itself out.

What are your hope and desires for SouthFair and/or the South Dallas community?

I think what SouthFair is doing will pay huge dividends for South Dallas in the upcoming years. What was once empty lots of land are now houses for middle income individuals and families. That will help change the perception of South Dallas in the near future where thriving middle class neighborhoods resides now. I think businesses and other commercial interests will take notice and see the hidden gem that South Dallas is.

We are still working diligently behind the scenes to bring Malcolm’s Point Townhomes and Retail to fruition. 2023 here we come!

Staff Spotlight

Alfred "Dale" Glaspie

Dale has been an important part of SouthFair’s family since 2012. He started as a contractor and was promoted to employee status in 2013. Dale has a wealth of “fix it” knowledge. He keeps our apartments and our office running smoothly. The Executive Director definitely appreciates his willingness to always be available. Even at 11p at night when someone is having a plumbing issue he there! Now we want you to get to know Dale!

If you've learned one thing in life, it is . . . Choices. In life, people make choices. They can be good for them or even choices they shouldn’t have made. And then there’s those that you should’ve done that you didn’t.

What are your hope and desires for SouthFair and/or the South Dallas community?

I enjoy working for SouthFair and would like to invest in the nonprofit to keep them growing. Ideally, I'd like to keep things motivated and grow to leave things behind for my family.
