A Tribute to a “Legend” in the Restaurant World of Dillon - The Arapahoe Cafe has closed.
The Arapahoe Café (formerly the Tappan House) was moved from the old town of Dillon to make way for the Dillon Dam.
I believe I was in High School the first time I had Breakfast at the Tappan House.
Fast forward to 1993, after becoming a full time resident in Dillon, the “A-Café” became my go to for breakfast, lunch, dinner…taco Tuesday, Burger night. Family, friends and clients have joined me over the years and have become raving fans.
Not only is the café a reliable and “yummy” place to grab a bite, but the café is also “local history”. Built in 1940 and moved to the current location in 1960 after the “old” town of Dillon was flooded to create the Dillon Reservoir. The Café was moved along with the old School House (now the Summit Historic Museum (a must see) several homes and the Dillon Cemetery.
Doug and Deb Pierce originally fed hundreds of patrons for many years until Deb passed away after a long battle with breast cancer.
Doug and Julie have kept the “Café” in “the family” for the past 10 years. They introduced us to Bonnie Q BBQ, the Road House and a very successful catering business. Bonnie-Q-BBQ was a part of many celebrations over the years sharing their award winning Bar-B-Que at weddings, reunions, celebrations of life all over Summit County.
